Thrivo helps local businesses compete for the top three positions customers see in local Google search — and keeps the work running consistently over time — without requiring the business owner to learn SEO, hire an agency, write posts every day, or manage multiple listing platforms manually. This guide explains the complete Thrivo experience in clear terms: how the platform works, what a slot is, what you need to do during setup, what Thrivo manages for you, what you will see in your dashboard, and how that activity is intended to turn local searches into calls, visits, and customers reaching your business.
Overview
When someone nearby searches for a business like yours, Google can show a map with three prominent local business results. That block is the Local Pack. For a customer, it is often one of the first places they look when deciding which nearby business to call, visit, or learn more about. Thrivo is designed around helping local businesses strengthen the signals that influence their visibility in these local search experiences. AI assistants and AI-generated search experiences can narrow the choice even further by directly recommending only a small number of businesses.
Thrivo manages the ongoing local-search work described throughout this guide: your Google, Bing, and Apple business listings; business information and hours; posts and photos; reviews and review responses; directory citations and NAP consistency; ranking tracking; and social video. Instead of giving you another set of SEO tasks to learn, Thrivo is designed to automate and organize this work for you. The service is sold in the same shape as the local-search opportunity it is designed to compete for: three Thrivo businesses per business category, per zip code. Those three positions are the complete Thrivo inventory for that territory.
In simple terms, Thrivo is meant to become the place where a local business manages the ongoing work behind being found online. You do not need to understand every SEO term before you begin. You tell Thrivo what kind of business you operate and where you want to compete, connect the supported business accounts, confirm the information it should use, and then review the work it prepares. Thrivo handles the recurring activity described in this guide while you keep control of what represents your business.
For example, imagine you own a plumbing company. A customer nearby may not search for your company by name; they may simply search for a plumber in their area. To have a strong chance of being discovered, your business information needs to be correct, your listings need to stay active, reviews need attention, directory information needs to remain consistent, and your search performance needs to be monitored. Thrivo brings those activities together instead of asking you to manage them as separate jobs.
Journey context: Orientation before the search → slot → signals → customers flow.

Getting Started
From first look to live automation, the current onboarding flow is three main steps and is designed to take about ten minutes of your time. The walkthrough video at the top of this guide shows the same flow visually. The instructions below explain what each step means so that a first-time user knows what is being connected, confirmed, and activated.
Journey context: What you actually do, click by click.
Watch: How to Use Thrivo
A short walkthrough takes you through the platform step by step — from checking whether a slot is available and claiming it, to connecting your business listings, generating your first reel, publishing it, and understanding the information shown in your dashboard. Use the video as a quick visual introduction, then use the detailed sections below whenever you need to understand a feature or step more closely.

1 · Claim Your Slot
Check availability for the exact business category and zip code you want to cover. If one of the three Thrivo slots is open, claim it, create your account, and choose the applicable plan. The current model states that no card is required to start the free trial. If all three slots are already held, the territory is not currently available and the waitlist process applies.
What happens after you claim: the claimed territory becomes associated with your Thrivo account under the current allocation model. From there, onboarding moves from availability to setup: you connect the supported business listings, confirm the information Thrivo should manage, and approve the keywords it should track. Claiming the slot is therefore the start of the relationship; it does not by itself mean all optimisation work is already active before setup is completed.

Why Thrivo
Many local-SEO products promise more visibility, but they often provide tools, reports, or recommendations that still leave the business owner responsible for doing the work. Thrivo is designed to reduce that burden. It combines territory exclusivity, recurring automation, ranking visibility, review workflows, citation management, and content generation so that a business owner can spend a small amount of time reviewing and approving rather than managing every activity manually.

End-to-End Journey
Thrivo has two audiences, and understanding both makes the platform much easier to understand. The first is the business owner who uses and pays for Thrivo. The second is the potential customer who is searching for that business’s services. Your actions inside Thrivo are intended to influence what happens outside Thrivo: a customer searches, sees your business, evaluates it, takes an action such as calling or visiting your website, and may eventually become a customer. The dashboard is designed to connect these two sides of the journey.
Journey context: Stitches together search → slot → signals → customers. This is the story the whole product serves.
Lens 1 — What you do on Thrivo
Your side of the journey is intentionally short. You complete the initial setup once, connect the business accounts Thrivo needs, confirm the information and keywords it should work with, and then spend a few minutes each week reviewing and approving the work Thrivo drafts. The platform handles the recurring activity and gives you a place to monitor what is happening.
- Search your zip code. Enter the business category you want to compete in and the zip code you want to cover. Thrivo checks that category-and-zip-code territory and shows whether any of its three slots are open. If the territory is already full, you can see that no slot is currently available and use the waitlist process described in this guide.
- Claim your slot. If a slot is available, create your account, choose the applicable plan, and claim the open position. Claiming the slot reserves one of Thrivo’s three positions for your business in that category and zip code under the current commercial terms. Once all three are held, Thrivo does not add another business to that same territory until a slot is released.
- Connect your Google Business Profile. Use the provider’s secure sign-in process to connect the business listing rather than giving Thrivo your password. Thrivo reads your current ranking and listing information as a baseline so you can compare where you started with later movement. The platform also supports the Bing Places and Apple Business Connect workflows described in this guide so your local presence is not limited to Google alone.
- Thrivo goes to work. After setup, the recurring workflow begins. Depending on the features included in your plan, Thrivo can prepare and publish approved posts, submit and monitor citations, support review requests, draft review responses, track keywords, and maintain the business information it manages. Where approval is required, you review the draft first; Thrivo handles the recurring execution after that approval.
- Watch your position change. Your dashboard shows the keyword and search-performance information Thrivo currently tracks across the supported search surfaces, with ranking information intended to update daily. This gives you a visible baseline and ongoing view of movement rather than waiting for an occasional report.
- More searches can find you. As the business strengthens its local-search presence and becomes more visible for the searches Thrivo is targeting, more potential customers have an opportunity to see the business when they are actively looking for that type of service.
- Connect the work to business results. Impressions or appearances, clicks, calls, directions, website actions, and estimated visits are presented so that you can understand the path from search visibility to customer intent. The purpose is to make the work understandable in business terms rather than showing ranking numbers without context.
Lens 2 — What your customer experiences
The other half of the story happens outside the Thrivo platform. A potential customer has a need, searches for a nearby business, compares the options that appear, checks information such as reviews and photos, and then decides whether to call, visit the website, request directions, or choose another business. Thrivo’s managed work is intended to strengthen the information and signals that support your business throughout that decision process.
- They search for what you do. A future customer might type “plumber near me,” “best hair salon in 23220,” or another service-and-location query into Google or Bing, or ask an AI assistant for a local recommendation. At this point, the customer may not know your business name; they are searching for the service you provide.
- Your business has an opportunity to appear. Thrivo works on the supported listing, content, citation, review, and consistency signals described in this guide so your business has a stronger and more complete local-search presence. Actual search positions remain controlled by the search platform.
- They evaluate your business. Once a customer sees your listing, they can use reviews, photos, hours, services, recent activity, and other visible information to decide whether the business looks relevant, active, and trustworthy compared with the alternatives.
- They click your listing. The customer may open the listing to check your business hours, services, photos, location, website, contact options, or other information before deciding what to do next.
- They take an action. Depending on the listing and search experience, the customer may tap to call, request directions, visit your website, or continue browsing. These actions are important because they show movement from simply seeing the business to actively considering it.
- They become a real-world customer. A search can lead to a phone conversation, website enquiry, appointment, store visit, or another real business interaction. Thrivo’s purpose is to help your business be present and credible at the point where that customer is deciding whom to choose.
- They may leave a review. After the service is complete, Thrivo can support the review-request workflow described in this guide. A new review then becomes part of the information that the next potential customer may see, helping the discovery-and-choice cycle continue.
The loop compounds.
Notice that the last step feeds the first. Every review Thrivo earns strengthens the next customer’s search result, which brings the next customer, who leaves the next review. It is a flywheel, not a funnel — the work builds on itself over time.
The connection between the two.
Every metric on your dashboard is a moment from a customer’s search. That is the point. Rankings on their own are trivia — rankings tied to calls, visits, and customers are revenue.
A note on what you see today. Lens 1 — your rankings, activity, and the business-side results currently available in the product — is live in your dashboard now. The more detailed customer-journey analytics view that reports each Lens 2 moment back to you step by step, including searches, appearances, clicks, and estimated visits, is rolling out. The customer journey itself already happens in the real world; the additional reporting view is the part that is still being expanded.
The Slot Model
A slot is the heart of Thrivo and the most important idea to understand before using the platform. A slot is not simply a subscription tier, a package name, or a collection of software features. It is an exclusive Thrivo hold on one of only three positions available for a specific business category within a specific zip code. For example, a plumbing business in one zip code would hold a different slot from a plumbing business in another zip code, and a plumbing slot is separate from an electrical-services slot in the same zip code.
The easiest way to understand a slot is to think of Thrivo as dividing the local market into territories. A territory is created by combining one business category with one zip code. For example, “Plumbing Contractors + 23220” is one territory. “Plumbing Contractors + 23221” is another territory, and “Electricians + 23220” is another. Thrivo allows only three participating businesses inside each territory.
Those three Thrivo slots are shared inventory. They are not three slots created separately for every account. If several business owners search the same category and zip code, they are all looking at the availability of the same territory. As businesses claim positions, the number of available slots for everyone else decreases.
A slot also should not be confused with a Google ranking number. Holding Thrivo Slot 1 does not mean Google has guaranteed you the number-one result, and holding Slot 3 does not mean Google has assigned you the third result. The slot identifies that your business is one of the limited businesses Thrivo will serve in that territory. Google and other search platforms continue to determine their own rankings.
Journey context: Defines exactly what you own, how it is bounded, and why it is scarce.
How slot availability works when multiple businesses are accessing Thrivo
Imagine that all three slots are initially open for Plumbing Contractors in zip code 23220. Business A searches that territory and claims one slot. The same territory now has two open slots. When Business B checks it, Business B sees the remaining availability and can claim one of those two positions. If Business C later claims the final position, the territory becomes full. Businesses D and E may still find or check the territory, but they cannot create a fourth or fifth Thrivo slot for that same category and zip code; the waitlist process applies instead.
This means slot availability is territory-level availability, not user-level availability. Different users can sign in from different devices or accounts, but the underlying inventory for the same category-and-zip-code combination is shared. A slot already allocated to one business cannot also be allocated as another independent slot to a different business in that same territory.
If two businesses attempt to claim the final available slot at nearly the same time, the current source guide only establishes the commercial rule that allocation is first come, first served. It does not yet define the technical reservation or locking point — for example, whether a temporary hold begins when a user clicks Claim, completes account creation, or completes another step. That exact simultaneous-claim behavior should be documented once the product team finalizes it; this guide does not invent a rule that has not yet been confirmed.
What a slot covers
- One category — the specific business type or service customers search for. The category defines the kind of business you are competing as within the territory.
- One zip code — the specific geographic territory to which the slot applies. A neighboring zip code is a separate territory.
- One of three positions — Thrivo limits each category-and-zip-code territory to three participating businesses, reflecting the three-result Local Pack model described in this guide.
- Full automation across every ranking signal Thrivo manages — the slot gives that territory access to the listing, content, review, citation, ranking, and other supported automation described in this guide.
What a slot does not do
- Buy placement — a Thrivo slot does not purchase a Google ranking. Google controls its own search results, and Thrivo does not claim that a business can buy a guaranteed position.
- Cover neighboring zip codes or a second category — each additional zip code or additional business category is treated as a separate territory and therefore requires a separate slot.
- Guarantee a position — the slot guarantees the Thrivo work and the exclusivity of the Thrivo territory model described here; it does not guarantee that Google will place the business in a particular search position.
How slots work for multiple zip codes and categories
A single slot covers only one category in one zip code. If the same plumbing company wants Thrivo coverage in 23220, 23221, and 23222, those are three separate territories and require three separate slots, subject to availability. The same rule applies when one company offers several categories. Plumbing + 23220 and Electrical Services + 23220 are separate territories even though the zip code is the same.
A business with several locations or categories can still manage them from one Thrivo login, as described later in this guide. The important distinction is that the login can contain multiple businesses or slots, but each slot keeps its own category, zip code, availability, and performance context.
Terms
| Commitment | Annual under the current working model. A slot is treated as a territory you hold for the year because the ranking and visibility work described in this guide is designed to build over time rather than operate as a one-time campaign. |
| Billing | Monthly or annual billing is planned. Annual billing is discounted; monthly billing reduces the amount paid up front. Exact commercial terms are still being finalized. |
| Allocation | First come, first served under the current working model. When a slot is open, the business that claims it first holds it; the model does not use a bidding process. |
| Pausing | Pausing is not available under the current working model. A slot is either held or released because an idle slot would keep a limited territory position unavailable while another business may be waiting. |
| Cancellation | Cancel any time under the current working model. After cancellation, the slot enters a short grace period and then returns to the available inventory or waitlist process. |
| Waitlist | When all three slots in a category-and-zip-code territory are held, another business can join the waitlist and claim the next opening when a slot is released. |
Terms still being finalized. The commercial terms above reflect the current working model. A few specifics — exact commitment length, allocation rules, and final pricing — are still being confirmed and may be adjusted before general launch.
What happens when a territory is full or a slot is released
When all three slots in a territory are held, the territory is full. Another business can join the waitlist rather than receiving an additional slot. Under the current working model, if an existing business cancels, its slot enters a short grace period and is then released. The opening can then return to the territory’s available inventory or waitlist process according to the final allocation rules.
Leaving Thrivo releases the slot, but it does not mean the business loses the assets that live in its own accounts. The guide states that listing improvements remain in the business’s listing accounts and reviews remain on the platforms where customers posted them. What becomes available to another business is the Thrivo slot itself.
Why three
Because Google shows three businesses in the Local Pack described in this guide, and AI assistants may recommend even fewer. Thrivo’s limit is therefore built into the product model rather than added only as a marketing restriction. The platform does not sell an unlimited number of identical subscriptions to businesses competing in the same category and zip code. Once all three Thrivo slots in a territory are held, another business must wait for an opening.
Your Dashboard
The dashboard is designed to answer one practical question: is the work helping customers find and act on my business? Instead of presenting SEO statistics without explanation, Thrivo frames each available metric as part of a customer’s path from searching for a service, to seeing the business, to taking an action, and ultimately to a business outcome.
Journey context: Where the customer’s search becomes visible to the owner who is paying.
Searches → Appearances → Clicks → Visits → Revenue
| Metric | What It Is | Why It Is Money |
|---|---|---|
| Slot status | Your business category, zip code, and the Thrivo position you hold out of the three available positions in that territory. | Confirms which territory is assigned to your business and that the Thrivo work is being run for that slot. |
| Searches | How many people searched for a business or service like yours within the search context represented by the dashboard. | Shows the size of the potential search demand from which later appearances, clicks, and customer actions can occur. |
| Appearances | How often your business actually appeared in the relevant search experience. | Helps you understand the difference between the number of searches happening and the portion in which your business was visible. |
| Clicks | Customer actions such as calls, direction requests, and website taps. | Shows movement from simply seeing the business to actively taking an action that can lead to a customer interaction. |
| Estimated visits | An estimate of what the available click and action data may translate to in foot traffic. | Provides a business-oriented measure that can be considered alongside what the Thrivo service costs. |
Businesses in one place.
Manage several locations or categories from one login — a restaurant group, a real-estate team, a multi-site clinic. Each business shows its own slot, completeness, and rankings without signing in and out.
Managing multiple businesses, locations, or slots
If your account contains several locations or categories, you do not need a separate login for every one. Thrivo is designed to let you manage them from one account. Each business or territory still has its own slot status, listing completeness, rankings, and related performance information, so results from one territory are not treated as if they belong to another.
Listings & Search
Your listings are the foundation that the rest of the Thrivo workflow builds on. Google, Bing, and Apple maintain their own records of a business, and those records feed different search, map, assistant, and discovery experiences. Thrivo manages the supported information across these systems so that the business details it controls remain accurate, complete, active, and consistent.
Journey context: The signals the engines read before deciding who fills the three positions.
| Listing | Feeds | What Thrivo Manages |
|---|---|---|
| Google Business Profile | Google Search, Maps, Local Pack | Business details, hours, categories, approved posts, and photos used in the supported Google listing workflow. |
| Bing Places | Bing, Copilot, ChatGPT | Business details, hours, categories, and the supported synchronization workflow with Google. |
| Apple Business Connect | Apple Maps, Siri | Business details, hours, photos, and showcases used in the supported Apple listing workflow. |
| Citations | Trust & consistency signals | Directory submissions plus monitoring of NAP — Name, Address, and Phone number — consistency across supported sources. |
NAP consistency means keeping your business Name, Address, and Phone number consistent wherever the business appears. Even small differences or outdated details can create conflicting information across directories and search systems. Thrivo continuously checks the supported citation and listing data for drift and flags inconsistencies so they can be corrected before inaccurate information spreads further.
Active, useful business listings give customers current information and show that the business is being maintained. Thrivo is designed to keep that activity moving without requiring you to write every post or produce every piece of social content manually.
Journey context: Generates the activity signal - and the social presence customers check before they call.

Reviews
Reviews affect two different parts of the customer journey: they can contribute to the signals around a business’s local presence, and they strongly influence whether a customer who sees the business feels confident choosing it. Thrivo therefore manages the review process as a cycle: review requests can be sent by QR, SMS, or email after service; incoming reviews are monitored; and a response is drafted for each review so you can review and approve the wording before it is used.
Journey context: Feeds ranking and closes the gap between appearing and being chosen.
Respond to negative reviews. A negative review is also visible to future customers, so the response matters. Thrivo drafts a calm, specific response for you to review and approve. The goal is to address the concern professionally and show the next reader that the business pays attention and responds appropriately, without removing your control over what is posted.
AI Search Visibility
Some local searches increasingly end with an AI-generated answer or recommendation rather than a customer opening a traditional list of links. That creates a second visibility challenge: a business can have a normal search presence and still need its information to be understandable and discoverable by AI-driven search experiences. Thrivo addresses this using the supported listings, website signals, reviews, and machine-readable information described below.
Journey context: The second front. Same signals, different surface - and the field is nearly empty.
Why it matters now
- AI Overviews appear on the majority of local business searches
- Only a small fraction of local businesses are ever recommended by AI
- Most AI citations trace back to sources the business controls - its site, listings, and reviews
What Thrivo does about it
- Bing Places management - the path into Copilot and ChatGPT
- Apple Business Connect - the path into Siri
- Schema markup so machines can read your site correctly
- Tracking whether you appear in AI answers at all
Pricing

Your Data & Privacy
Thrivo is designed to do most of the recurring work, but it needs two things from you: authorized access to the business accounts it is managing and a small amount of time to review and approve the items that require your decision. You remain in control of your business accounts and approved content.
Journey context: What the platform touches, and what it never does.
Thrivo can
- Update the approved business details, hours, and categories managed through your connected business listings.
- Publish posts and photos after you have reviewed and approved them.
- Prepare review-response drafts for you to review and approve before they are used.
- Read the ranking and search-performance information required for the dashboard and supported automation.
Thrivo never
- Touches your email, contacts, or personal accounts as part of the platform workflow described in this guide.
- Posts content that you have not approved.
- Sees or stores your passwords; connections use the provider’s secure sign-in process.
- Sells or shares your data, according to the current platform guide.
You connect your listings through each provider’s official, secure sign-in flow rather than giving Thrivo your password. The current guide states that you can revoke that access at any time. Thrivo uses the authorized connection only for the business-listing, publishing, review, and performance functions described in this guide.
If You Leave
If you leave Thrivo, the distinction between your business assets and the Thrivo slot is important. The work performed in your own business accounts remains associated with those accounts, while the exclusive Thrivo slot is released according to the cancellation and grace-period rules.
- Your listings stay yours. Improvements made to your own listing accounts remain in those accounts after you leave. The value created in your business information is not stored only inside Thrivo.
- Your reviews stay yours. Reviews remain on the platform where the customer posted them, such as Google; they are not owned by Thrivo or removed simply because your Thrivo service ends.
- Your slot returns to the pool. After the short grace period described in the current model, the Thrivo position for that category and zip code becomes available to the next eligible business, including businesses already waiting for the territory.
- Coming back can mean waiting your turn. If another business claims the released position and all three Thrivo slots are then held, you cannot automatically reclaim the old slot. You would join the waitlist like another business seeking that territory.

FAQ
Why only three businesses per zip code?
Because the Thrivo inventory model is built around the three local positions described in this guide. Thrivo therefore limits each category-and-zip-code territory to three participating businesses rather than selling the same territory to an unlimited number of direct competitors.
Does a slot guarantee I rank in the top three?
No. Google controls its own rankings, and a Thrivo slot does not purchase or guarantee a Google position. The slot guarantees the Thrivo work and the territory exclusivity described in this guide — not the search engine's final ranking decision.
How much work is it for me?
The current guide estimates about ten minutes for the initial setup. After that, the intended ongoing workload is roughly five minutes per week to review and approve the content, responses, or other drafts Thrivo has prepared for you.
How fast will I see results?
Local-search signals build over time rather than changing all at once. The current guide describes early movement as possible within weeks and more meaningful change over months. Your dashboard is intended to show the movement throughout that period so you can compare the current position with the starting baseline.
What happens if I cancel?
Your slot enters the short grace period described in the current model and is then released to the waitlist or available inventory. Your business listings remain in your accounts, and your reviews remain on the platforms where they were posted.
Can I pause my subscription?
No, under the current working model. A Thrivo slot is either actively held or released. The reason given in this guide is that pausing a slot would keep one of the three limited territory positions unavailable while another business may be waiting.
Do I have to write anything?
No. Thrivo generates the posts, reels, and review-response drafts described in this guide. Your role is to review and approve them where approval is required, rather than writing each item from the beginning.
Is a Thrivo slot the same as a Google ranking position?
No. A Thrivo slot is a position in Thrivo's territory inventory, not a purchased Google ranking. It means your business is one of the limited businesses Thrivo serves for that category and zip code. Search engines still determine their own results.
What happens if several businesses check the same territory?
They are checking the same shared slot inventory for that category and zip code. If one business claims a slot, the remaining availability decreases for other businesses checking the same territory.
What if two businesses try to claim the last slot at the same time?
The current working model says allocation is first come, first served, but the source documentation does not yet define the exact technical locking or temporary-hold step. That behavior should be confirmed before the guide states precisely when the final slot becomes reserved.
Can one slot cover more than one zip code?
No. One slot covers one business category in one zip code. Another zip code creates another territory and requires a separate slot, subject to availability.
Can one slot cover more than one business category?
No. Each category-and-zip-code combination is a separate territory. If the same business wants Thrivo coverage for two categories in the same zip code, it needs a separate slot for each category.
Can I manage several slots from one account?
Yes. The guide states that multiple locations or categories can be managed from one login. Each slot still keeps its own territory, status, completeness, rankings, and related performance information.
What happens when all three slots are already held?
The territory is full. Another business can join the waitlist and wait for a slot to be released. Under the current working model, a cancelled slot passes through a short grace period before returning to the territory's availability or waitlist process.
